Новости[2014-05-22] Panel Session "City for People in the 21st Century: Needs, Scenarios, Challenges" in the framework of the XVI th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.On May 22, 2014 the Panel Session "City for People in the 21st Century: Needs, Scenarios, Challenges" took place in the framework of the XVII th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The organizers of the round table were Leontief Centre, the Committee for Economic Policy and Strategic Planning of Saint Petersburg, the Council Of Ministers of Northern Countries, the Council of municipalities of Saint Petersburg, the Center of Independent Sociological Research. The central theme of the discussion was the question of how to make the city comfortable, affordable, environmentally safe and attractive for the life of citizens. The following persons took part in the panel session: one of the leading urbanists of the world Jan Gehl, the Chairman of the Committee on economic policy and strategic planning of St. Petersburg Anatoly Kotov, Chairman of Council of Municipalities of St. Petersburg Vsevolod Belikov, architects Daniyar Yusupov, Enric Massip Bosch, Marcus Appenzeller, leading experts of Leontief Centre Nina Oding and Boris Zhikharevich, head of the Nordic Council of Ministers Information Office in St. Petersburg Mika Boedeker as well as representatives of academic and business communities in St. Petersburg. During the discussion, the participants spoke about the projects of transformation of public space including the project of the Council of Ministers of the Northern Countries "SAGA of the City" the goal of which was to take a fresh look at the organization of public space of Petersburg and to model new creative modern space, convenient and attractive for residents using the experience of Northern countries. Jan Gehl presented the approach of the Gehl Architects company in his speech as well as Moscow experience in the planning of urban space and infrastructure. The architect of Barcelona Enric Massip Bosch voiced the idea of the importance of creating the school of urban planning in the city. The results achieved by St. Petersburg in this area were reflected in the questions considered at the session and further goals for the urban agenda were outlined. This panel discussion aroused great interest from the participants of the forum, the press, experts and citizens. The meeting of the participants of the discussion ended with a friendly dinner of partners of the Project "Saga of the City. Transformation of Public Space” and with a trip on a boat on water spaces of St. Petersburg. Continuation of the discussion will be held on 27-28 October in St. Petersburg in the framework of the round table "Saga of the city. Transformation of public space" at the XIII All-Russian Forum «Strategic Planning in the Regions and Cities of Russia».
